GROUNDING is always a significant site issue,
AND
ROOM INTEGRITY…
The importance and positive results of site Room Integrity is highly regarded by Clients. When the protected room exceeds the minimum Agent Concentration Retention time, this is the benefit from a room treated for optimum containment.
-
Each enclosure must be sealed to ensure that leakage of suppression agent does not occur during discharge and that the required design concentration can be maintained for the containment time until personnel response is provided.
-
If the main room is protected, the sub-floor volume is as well. Barriers to enclose individual room and their sub-floors (“technical floors”) from adjacent zones are key.
-
The most affective Clean Agent Fire Protection System performance results is directly related in part to the sealing of all holes and special penetrations, including walls, ceilings, cable entranceways, around doors and under.
-
All doors that are normally open should have a door holder or magnet that releases at the fire system alarm stage.
-
If walls are not slab-to-slab construction, the drop ceiling should not be penetrated –it must be complete and sealed.
-
Air Handling and Cooling Fans are to be shut down upon alarm, to prevent agent loss or smoke to permeate other rooms. If the HVAC equipment cannot be shut down, a closed re-circulating-only type is acceptable.
GROUNDING
Site grounding is critical for the operating integrity of the fire protection systems’ electronic control and programmed functions.
-
Many building electrical systems do not provide a True Earth Ground. This condition may cause the fire protection system to initiate a non-programmed output function, and possibly lead to discharge of the agent.
-
The Modular fire suppression system is manufactured with a specific ground wire plug or hard wire termination point. It is critical during a fire event that the device operation not be impaired by interference or disruption.
-
GROUND WIRE MUST BE TERMINATED to the fire protection control board and enclosure in addition to ground of the frame.
